100 PERCENT
By Robert Press
This past Sunday's Puerto Rican Day Parade up the Grand Concourse was the climax to the celebrating of Puerto Rican Heritage Month. Photos of the parade are elsewhere in this newspaper. There were festivals and events such as those that you can find on my blog at www.100percentbronx.blogspot.com , and it was great to see all the wonderful people that were involved all month long. There are too many people to thank, but I know many of them do not want any thanks for doing much of what they love, that being able to show their love for their heritage.
I was able to attend the kick off for the Bronx Puerto Rican Day Parade which was posted on my blog. It was good to see Mr. Francisco Gonzalez again, and that he is still doing what he loves, that being a part of the Bronx Puerto Rican Day Parade. I stopped by the East 152nd Street Festival that took place last Saturday, and have placed a few photos of the event on my blog also.
If you are driving by a school you may either want to check your speedometer to see that
you are within the speed limit of 25 Miles Per Hour (or less if posted), or just smile if you are speeding because you may be on 'CANDID SPEED CAMERA'. I found one of the Department of Transportation's Speed Camera Cars sitting in front of PS 81 in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. Yes the camera on the top of the Speed camera Car was going , and the flash was going off on a regular pace. The car is a Ford Escape SUV, and while this one was white the Speed Camera Cars also comes in black. To see photos of the Speed camera Car sitting in front of PS 81 go to my blog archive for may under the title 'Smile you are on Candid Speed camera'. Also is a photo of Mayor de Blasio when he introduced the Speed Camera Cars.
New York One almost gave me a good reason to cancel my Cablevision subscription. That being taking off New York One Political Rundown commentator Curtis Swila. Swila had said some stupid remarks about our current City Council Speaker which I will not reprint, and it seems after five weeks of the Church Ladies Coffee Klutch (a spinoff from Saturday Night Live) that Curtis Swila will be returning to the Political Rundown. No offsense meant to you J.C. Polanco, but you are no Curtis Swila, and don't quit your day job. Unfortunately this means that we will be getting a no steroid version of Swila, but maybe that is a good idea if one looks at the kind of year that Alex Rodriguez is having without using steroids.

Kids Love New Zoo Exhibit
BRONX, NEW YORK, JUNE 1- The Children’s Zoo at WCS’s (Wildlife Conservation Society) Bronx Zoo has undergone a renovation and officially reopened with a weekend-long celebration.
“Originally opened at the Bronx Zoo in 1941, the Children’s Zoo is a historic part of any visit to the Bronx Zoo,” said Jim Breheny, WCS Executive Vice President and Bronx Zoo Director. “The Children’s Zoo is an experience people remember from their childhoods and represents many people’s first up-close encounter with wild animals. The new Children’s Zoo maintains the nostalgia from the past while creating new experiences and introducing a variety of different species to the exhibit.”
Species new to the Children’s Zoo include giant anteater (Myrmecophaga tridactyla), Linne’s Two- toed Sloth (Choloepus didactylus), South American coatimundi (Nasua nasua) and the world’s smallest deer: the pudu (Pudu puda). Other wildlife favorites returning to the children’s zoo include American alligators (Alligator mississippiensis), black-tailed prairie dogs (Cynomys ludovicianus), and South American squirrel monkeys (Saimiri sciureus) which now live on an island habitat surrounded by wading Caribbean flamingoes (Phoenicopterus ruber) and other dabbing waterfowl.
The exhibit improvements are substantial, but maintain the walk-through trail experience and key features such as the aviary, prairie dog tunnels, bird nests, turtle shells, and tree house slide that have become iconic and a source of nostalgia for many.
WCS worked with author/ artist Brendan Wenzel on the new whimsically illustrated interpretive graphics that identify species, provide key facts about the animals, and educate about the species’ conservation needs in the wild. He will be on-site all weekend to sign his new book, Some Bugs.
The Children’s Zoo officially re-opened on May 30 with a weekend-long celebration. As part of the festivities, Peppa Pig, the world-famous star of the hit animated TV series airing daily on Nick Jr., joined families for a weekend full of fun at the zoo.
Kipps Bay Boys and Girls Club, BombaYo Afro-Puerto Rican Youth Project, and Casita Maria Chorus from The Bronx each performed music and dance numbers all weekend and to celebrate the grand re-opening.
WCS’s Education Department hosted “Children’s Zoo Quests” and the “Adventure Club” for kids and families, presented by Canon U.S.A. These daytime guided tours run every half hour, and will continue through November 1 on weekends, Wednesdays, and holidays.
Canon has generously sponsored the transformation of the Children’s Zoo, including the enhanced animal exhibits, colorful updated graphics, and innovative play experiences.

Trump opens golf course in Ferry Point Park
BRONX, NEW YORK, MAY 28- Donald J. Trump, chairman and president of The Trump Organization, accompanied by Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric Trump, executive vice presidents of development and acquisitions, as well as special guest Jack Nicklaus and members of the Nicklaus family, officially opened Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point, the most anticipated new course in the country.
Donald Trump, along with Ferry Point course designer and golf history’s greatest champion Jack Nicklaus, completed the long-awaited course, which is now open and already receiving rave reviews. Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point, located just minutes outside of Manhattan, marks the first public course to open in New York City in more than 50 years and offers New York City residents a championship caliber, luxury resort experience unlike anything else.
Donald Trump said, “I am honored to have played such a major role with respect to this great course for the people of New York City and finally finished what many could not in a very short period of time. Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point is truly an incredible course that will undoubtedly host many major championships in the years to come.”
Joining Tuesday’s Grand Opening celebration were members of the Trump Family, Jack and Barbara Nicklaus and family, as well many New York City officials, including NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver, FAICP.
Nicklaus, winner of a record 18 professional major championships, a 2015 recipient of the Congressional Gold Medal, and Golf Magazine’s 2014 Architect of the Year, points out that the Big Apple’s newest golf course was designed with all golfers in mind, but also with the ability to host a major golf tournament. "If you are going to have a golf course that has the ability to host a high-profile national or international event, you have to have some spice in it,” Nicklaus said. “Our goal as a public golf course is to have it play well on a daily basis and serve the needs of those golfers who visit Ferry Point. But when asked to host an event, we believe we have the ability to move to the back tees, hide the pins, and create a test of golf fitting of any tournament or championship. You have an ideal situation with Ferry Point, located just minutes from downtown Manhattan, and a view of the New York skyline during any event you might have. It’s an unbelievable golf course. I hope it’s a great source of pride for New Yorkers and a special experience for those who visit.”
After the ceremony, which included remarks from Mr. Trump and Mr. Nicklaus, each put their signature on the event by hitting ceremonial tee shots.
NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver, FAICP said, “This official opening of the new premier public golf course at Ferry Point Park gives us the opportunity to showcase The Bronx on a national stage. NYC Parks’ 14th golf course will offer New Yorkers and visitors a unique recreational experience on the City’s first tournament-quality golf course, free lessons for children throughout the summer, and has transformed the area into a regional destination.”
Golfers can reserve tee times by visitingwww.trumpferrypoint.com, calling (718) 414-1555 or emailinginfo@trumpgolflinks.com. Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point is expected to greatly enhance the golf experience for everyone in New York City, but especially in The Bronx.

Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point is part of a city-funded redevelopment project. The 18-hole links style Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, designed in consultation with Sanford Design, is operated by the Trump Golf team and joins the global golf portfolio of native New Yorker and avid golfer Donald Trump. The course is designed specifically to take advantage of spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline, East River and the Whitestone and Throgs Neck bridges. Hit-and-Run Driver Sought in Concourse Crash

Police from the 46th Precinct and paramedics were called to the Grand Concourse at East 182 Street where the 40-year-old victim was found lying in the roadway, at 8:45 p.m. on Thursday, May 28.
According to investigators the unidentified victim suffered "multiple injuries" when the vehicle plowed into the man as he walked westbound across the main roadway of the busy boulevard.
The man was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital in critical condition however, his condition was unavailable at this hour.
A small pool of blood and a camouflage baseball cap littered the roadway, along with medical debris left behind by paramedics.
The entire accident was apparently caught on police surveillance video. Police were initially looking for a gray automobile-- believed to be either a Hyundai Sonata or Toyota Camry.
